Mason, a nice cat, was rescued from a remote shelter in North Carolina and brought to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation in Virginia, United States. The cat was scarred, had lacerated ears, and a slew of other health conditions that required immediate treatment.
Jen Boger, a volunteer and cat admissions coordinator for the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation who also runs the Pokey Pot Pie blog, was browsing the shelter’s animal profiles when she came across a photo of an elderly, mistreated cat named Mason and felt she wanted to assist him right away.
Jen realized that if she didn’t intervene and assist Mason, he might never get the second opportunity he earned. He was in terrible shape.
According to the volunteer,
“When I saw Mason’s photo and description, I knew he was the sort of cat that would be passed over by potential adopters and other rescues time and time again because he appeared to be so rough, difficult, and unwell.”
Jen first met Mason when she reached out to pet him and he leaned towards her palm. The kitten has shown from the start that he wants to survive and be loved. Jen drove him home, where he could begin his rehabilitation in a warm and welcoming environment.
Jen recalls:
“He was oily, congested, underweight, and self-conscious when he came.” When he heard us approaching, he would hide and peep out until he was sure he was safe. But once he makes that decision, he’ll be stuck to you like glue.”
Mason proved to be a really lovely cat when he was healing, and he was always searching for affection. He yearned to be held and touched by his human. He’d came over to snuggle up next to Jen as soon as she sat down on the couch.
Jen explains:
“Mason has discovered that hugging is about the nicest thing there is, and he’ll take as many cuddles (including stomach massages) as you’re willing to give him. He appears to be a rough, harsh person, but he’s really a nice, soft teddy bear that only wants to be loved and caressed.”
Mason had significant scars on his face and both of his ears were seriously damaged. He had ringworm and an odd bulge on one of his paws, and his fur was crusty. He also had a lot of other health issues, and his teeth were in horrible shape.
Fortunately, Mason has overcome each of his diseases and is becoming stronger every day after a few weeks of visits to the veterinarian.
The lovely feline had a rough start before being saved, but he now has a long future ahead of him filled with love and care.
Mason’s adoptive mother had this to say about him:
“He has a tough man appearance, yet he is one of the kindest cats I have ever encountered.” He doesn’t have a single mean bone in his body. He’s merely a kid who has had to adapt to live in a harsh environment.
