Cat lovers from all around the world, rejoice! Japan is full of surprises, and some of them are especially exciting if you like fluffy cats. Catto fans visiting Japan should make a point of visiting Nyan Nyan Ji (roughly, Meow Meow Temple in English), which is located in Kyoto.

We know what you’re thinking: a site called Meow Meow Temple should be teeming with felines, right? Well, you’re absolutely accurate! There is a cat monk on the premises, as well as catto helpers. Isn’t that purrfect? Scroll down to read Bored Panda’s interview with Koyuki, the Meow Meow Temple’s top cat monk!

If you ever find yourself in Kyoto, be sure to pay a visit to the Meow Meow Temple!

This is Koyuki, the temple’s chief monk. Koyuki enjoys engaging with her ‘worshipers,’ according to her owner.

Visitors to Kyoto’s Nyan Nyan Temple are in for a treat since they will be greeted by Koyuki, the current cat monk. Inside the temple, you may order cat-themed cuisine and drinks.

“This shrine was opened by painter Toru Kaya with the concept of this favorite cat,” Koyuki’s owner told Bored Panda about Meow Meow Temple.

The person who opened Meow Meow Temple, according to Koyuki’s owner, is a well-known painter of “shrines and temples.”

There are also several statues and pictures of cats around the museum. If you’re looking for gifts, go inside the temple shop known as “Littlefootmark Ren.”

Visitors to the Meow Meow Temple may play with cats and enjoy cafés and cat art, according to Koyuki’s owner, who provided Bored Panda exclusive photographs from the temple.

Koyuki isn’t the first cat monk to hold the position of honor at the temple: three generations of feline monks have preceded him. We’re not sure if such a rapid turnover of cattos leading the temple is a good or bad thing, as the temple only opened in 2016.
