9-Yeаr-Old Archiе Reсovers Frоm Scаbies Revеaling A Lоving Cаt Whо Neеds A Hоme

It had barely been 2 months since he joined the foster family with Wrenn Rescues Inc., located in Southern California. And during that short time, a loving senior tuxedo cat named Archie had emerged from within a scabies covered and scared stray.

But now that the scabies have cleared, Archie requires one more thing to thrive…a forever home!

The sweet black and white boy was transferred from another local rescue that primarily focuses on dogs; no place for a cat to recover. So he was brought to the willing fosters and volunteers with Wrenn Rescues. Here, he would begin treatments for the severe case of mange, another name for scabies.

Scabies can affect a cat of any age or gender and they don’t need to have bad personal hygiene to become infected. It is a very unpleasant and frustrating disease which is caused by an infestation of mites known as Notoedris Cati. This mite penetrates the skin tissue deeply and leads to itchiness, irritation, open wound and scabs.

And while there is a simple treatment plan available, the cat must be quarantined as it is extremely contagious to others. The space and time needed to heal is sadly what prevents these deserving felines from finding care. But when it’s completed, before you stands a sleek, perfectly groomed housecat, and it makes every second worth it.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t really know what to expect with [his] care but it’s WAY easier than I thought it would be. [Archie] is on Clavamox for the skin infections and Revolution flea treatment.

So grateful for my friends @christhecatguy and @caatfriends for walking me through how to care for them and keep myself safe from getting it. I wish more people knew how easy it was. I wear gloves, wash my hands and as a precaution I change my clothes after feeding/cleaning their crates. ❤️

All they need is a safe place to hang out, heal and then we can learn their personality and get them the best situation for them for their forever.

That is exactly what Archie did in their dedicated care.

Its crazy that something so simple is life changing for them. So many cats are put to sleep needlessly for something so treatable. It’s been so wonderful to see their appetites increase, their trust in me grow and see them get so much more comfortable.

Once Archie was fully cleared of the scabies by the veterinarian, he was free to explore more of his foster home.

Archie got an upgrade to the catio from his crate! 🥳 He is doing so wonderful after being cleared of his mange. His fur is growing back nicely. Pretty incredible transformation.

The shelter aged him at 8 years old which seems about right. He is such a sweetheart and pretty laid back. [Archie] doesn’t seem to mind my outdoor ferals coming to see him so I think he will do ok with another quiet laid back cat. He will soon be ready for his forever home. Just need to get him fixed and tested to make sure there isn’t anything internal going on we can’t see. But he has a great appetite, very healthy in appearance. Amazing what some TLC can do.

When his tests came back there was great news for the senior sweetheart.

He does have FIV but to be honest I wasn’t surprised considering he is an 8 years old tomcat that was living outside. His bloodwork other than the FIV, was perfect. He is SO sweet. Playful and silly at times but gentle. Brought my cats out to him and he was excited to see them while my cats hissed 😂

We don’t foresee Archie being up for adoption for long with his loving attitude. Thankfully, Wrenn Rescues saw through the scabies covered cat to the PAWSability of a loving, grateful housecat within. Now, Archie deserves his very own family to love for the rest of his days. Please reach out to Wrenn Rescues if you are interested in adopting the dapper gentleman.
