Pallas’ cats are a near-threatened wild species found in Central Asia’s montane steppes and grasslands. Also known as Manul cats, these round pupiled, short legged felines can create some of the most expressive faces you’ve ever seen. The Pallas’ cats high-elevation habitat of up to 16,000 ft results in a weakened immune system from lack of exposure to viral infections. Because of this, survival rates are especially low in captivity, and new litters have high mortality rates of up to 44.9%.
These funny photos might make it seem like the Pallas’ cat would be an interesting pet but their solitary and wild nature, as well as their high mortality rate at low altitudes, restricts them primarily to professional zoos.
